When it comes to truck camping gear, fancy studio photography and lab tests can only tell you so much. What really matters is how your equipment holds up when real people take it out into the real world.
Recently, Adventures With Combs, an authentic outdoors & overlanding creator on YouTube, posted a raw, unfiltered Vlog sharing his first night out camping with the MilesRunner Inflatable Camper Topper.
He bought his topper back in December and installed it in January during freezing 25°F winter conditions. Months later, he took it out for its official first overnighter at Kiser Lake State Park in Ohio. Here is a look into his long-term feedback, DIY bed setup, and real-world experience.
One of the biggest concerns truck owners have about inflatable camper toppers is pressure retention over time: Do you need to constantly pump it back up every few weeks?
Comb’s experience answered that question directly. Between January and April, his truck experienced heavy spring winds and violent temperature fluctuations—including a 12-hour swing from 64°F down to 25°F.
"I installed this in January, and it has not lost any air whatsoever. I haven't had to put any air into it at all, and it hasn't moved an inch from where I clamped it down." — Adventures With Combs
Thanks to our high-pressure drop-stitch construction and 5 independent heavy-duty air chambers, the MilesRunner topper maintains structural rigidity through seasonal shifts without requiring constant maintenance.

2. Premium Durability at a Honest Price
In his video, Comb compares the MilesRunner Inflatable Topper to other convertible options on the market:
-
Affordability: Out-the-door value compared to canvas soft-tops or fiberglass hard shells that often run upwards of 2,000+.
-
Aesthetics: High-end, structured appearance that looks like a custom camper shell rather than a floppy tent cover.
-
Head-Turner: A genuine conversation starter at campsites when people realize it’s inflatable!
3. DIY Truck Bed Setup: A Heartwarming Custom Build
Inside his 5'7" truck bed, Comb put together a simple yet clever sleeping platform using 4-inch furniture upholstery foam and custom plywood frames.
More importantly, his build carried a deeply personal story: he repurposed timber originally used in a model train table he had built alongside his late grandfather. Transforming those materials into a truck camping platform allowed his grandfather's legacy to live on through every new adventure.
Comb also highlighted how he uses the built-in MOLLE webbing along the internal seams to route rope lights and secure lightweight gear overhead.

4. Weather Protection: Surviving a 30°F Temperature Drop Overnight
Spring weather in the Midwest is unpredictable. Comb went to sleep with pleasant 70°F weather, only to wake up to a chilly 38°F (3°C) frost near the lake.
Even with a sharp temperature drop and winds blowing off the water, the topper kept the breeze out and trapped ambient heat inside, creating a warm, cozy shelter for a solid night's rest.
Final Thoughts
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Adventures With Combs for sharing his journey and honest review with his community. Stories like his—combining real-world durability with personal memories on the road—are why we build gear in the first place.
Whether you're planning a quick weekend getaway to disconnect from the screen or gearing up for cross-country overlanding, the MilesRunner Inflatable Camper Topper is built to keep up.
